Free Dermatology Clinic
This effort is a work in progress – We are actively seeking partners to fully establish this initiative
Domestic violence and homelessness are prevalent in Chicago, disproportionately affecting women of color. Chronic dermatological conditions like psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and alopecia are exacerbated by stress and lack of medical access. The Airia Comprehensive Health & Advisory Services Foundation has partnered with a local Women’s Shelter to bring monthly skincare education and free patient screenings to these ladies who otherwise would not receive care.
The clinic will offer monthly workshops, providing education on skincare and conditions to women in attendance. Additionally, each month, time will be reserved for 3-4 participants to be seen as patients for personalized ‘appointments’. They will be given treatment plans, recommendations, and suitable selections from donated prescription medications and skincare products. Leave-behind resources and materials will be shared with Deborah’s Place Health Services staff for continued learning and education in between Free Clinic days.
Daisie Foundation Mother’s Day Event
This past May was another successful event with Daisie Foundation hosting the Mother’s Day Makeover! Women from all over the Chicagoland area came to Venue West to get pampered – getting their hair and makeup done by Pin Me Up Chicago, new clothes donated from Banana Republic and Meijer, and smiling for professional headshots. They also received inspiring advice of persistence through challenge, given by the incredible panel of successful women (Tameca Reed, Elana Comrov M.D., Rani Morrison Williams MS, MSW, LCSW, FACHE, CDE, Edith Ruiz, Angela Reed – moderated by the fabulous Evrod Cassimy) over lunch. It was a day full of smiles, dancing, and celebrating these beautiful ladies!
